Bassoon, Saxophone
David Pendock has been teaching winds since 2009. Their students have been principal chair in the DSO Civic Youth Orchestra, the Oakland Youth Orchestra, and the MSBOA All-State Band. They graduated with their Master's Degree in Bassoon Performance from the University of Michigan in 2017, where they researched 20th century French contest pieces written for bassoon, especially by female composers. They also have a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Grand Valley State University, where they studied bassoon, saxophone, composition, music theory, and audio technology. Their research interests include music appropriate for middle and high school students by composers of diverse races, genders and ethnicities, the role of the saxophone in the orchestral canon, and the production of 1990s House, Downtempo, and video game soundtracks. If you ask them who they're listening to, the most likely answers are Maurice Ravel, Lizzo, Yuzo Koshiro, or Stephen Sondheim.
