"I'm a versatile, experienced teacher who works with all ages and levels. I started teaching in 2003 and have been consistently teaching since then. I truly believe that every person learns a little differently and because of that, I make sure that every student has a personalized lesson in order to set them up for success. I can't wait to meet you and get started on your musical journey!"

Melinda Slater is a violin, viola, and cello teacher. She started playing the violin when she was 10 years old and started teaching lessons in 2003. Melinda has performed with the Central Music Orchestra (first violin section), Grand Rapids Youth Symphony (all sections), Calvin Community Orchestra (first violin section), and played in over 45 weddings. She has had many amazing teachers and conductors over the years, which have helped form her own teaching styles. John Varineau (co-conductor of the Grand Rapids Symphony) being one of the most important influences on her teaching style. Melinda's passion for music has been molded over the years and she absolutely loves being able to pass on that passion to her students. The importance of music cannot be diminished. Not only is it beneficial for your own creativity, it also keeps your mind active and helps with the academic side too.

Having taught students of all ages and music styles, Melinda welcomes anyone who wants to stay on the traditional music route or anyone who would like to learn other genres of music (or a mix of all the above). She has taught classical, Broadway, Suzuki, rock, pop, modern, and many more styles of music. Setting you up for success, whether it's for solo work to small ensembles to orchestral work, is important to Melinda as well.

"I can't wait to meet you!"
