As he progressed into high school he performed in everything from a contemporary Christian band to a metal band and everything in-between. During his high school years, Kevin was in the jazz band, concert band and marching band where he studied with Jason Trigg, the 1990 DCI Multi-tenor champion.
His college instructors include: Stacy Jones (Michigan State University) as well as Eric Jones and Roger Braun (Jackson Community College) where he jazz, funk, afro-Cuban, and many other genres under Roger’s tutelage.
During his years at Albion College, Kevin made a name for himself teaching high school drumlines. After graduating with degrees in Percussion Performance and Music Education, Kevin began teaching drumlines and percussion lessons full-time, as well as performing with jazz combos and his horn-based rock band Huckleberry Groove.
He has a proven track record of successfully teaching young drummers and has no fewer than ten professional drummers as former students. Kevin has a somewhat traditional approach to teaching lessons using well-respected books and materials, combined with modern audio recordings and other technology to help students progress regardless of age or experience level.
