Mike Shannon

Kalamazoo

Horn, Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium, Tuba

Mike Shannon has been living in Kalamazoo since the fall of 1969 when he arrived to be a music major at WMU. January 1970 is when he started teaching private music lessons at area schools. During his first couple of years he became the first call sub in the Kalamazoo Symphony for his teacher at WMU, Bob Whaley. He eventually started to sub in all of the orchestras in SW and western Michigan as well as northwest Indiana. He eventually won regular positions as the principal tuba in the Battle Creek Symphony, bass trombone in the South West Michigan Symphony, and tubaist with the Kalamazoo Symphony Brass Quintet. He also has developed a large private lesson studio at some area schools, and hopes to grow his studio at Marshall Music where he has very much enjoyed his time.
