Jessica Cates has been teaching low brass students of all ages for over 15 years. She currently holds a Bachelor of Music from Central Michigan University, a Master of Music from University of Massachusetts-Amherst and is currently finishing her doctorate from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.


As a performer, Jessica has held several principal trombone positions in regional orchestras on the east coast. She has worked with the Boston Philharmonic as an assisting musician and has performed with Josh Groban in Boston. She regularly freelances in the metro Detroit area on both trombone and euphonium and is a brass clinician for 5 school districts in Macomb and Oakland county.


Private lessons include (but not limited to), basic fundamentals, concert band/marching band preparation, musicality, technique, solo and ensemble preparation and recording/audition instruction in both classical and jazz styles. In 2020 and 2022 all of her students who attended solo and ensemble received first division ratings.
