Aaron Meyer was born and raised in metro Detroit. From a young age, he was exposed to a lot of music and a wide variety of music by his parents at home. He picked up the guitar at age ten but soon set it down for a while. By the time he was 13, he was taking lessons from his cousin and it was during this time he became inspired to pursue music as a career.
After graduating high school, Meyer attended Michigan State University’s jazz program, under the direction of world-renowned bassist Rodney Whitaker. It was here Meyer studied for two years under Perry Hughes and two years under Randy Napoleon. After graduating, he spent a year gigging locally in Lansing and the surrounding area before moving back to Detroit.
Nowadays, he finds himself playing regularly amongst various groups around Detroit in a variety of styles from rock n’ roll to jazz, funk, and gospel. He has performed with figures and groups such as Rodney Whitaker, Etienne Charles, and The Chicago Jazz Orchestra, and currently performs with The P-Funk Outlawz, The Detroit Mass Choir, hip hop artist Stoop Lee, and the Stellar Award winning gospel quartet, Young Men 4 Christ, among others.
