Upon completion of the course, students will have gained the fundamental skills to make music on the piano. Students may then continue with further group courses or enroll private instruction.

Class Description: String Scouts is a dynamic beginner violin group class designed to introduce the violin to kids with no previous playing experience. Using carefully selected “Suzuki” strategies, coupled with traditional European methods of learning the violin, String Scouts emphasizes healthy playing movements from day one. Movement skills and coordination are developed through innovative games with the instrument. Songs learned in class consist of timeless nursery rhymes and folk melodies. Come prepared… to have fun!

Class Description: String Stars is an advancing beginners class for kids with 1–3 years playing experience on the violin. Continuing from the String Scouts violin program, the goal of String Stars will be to further develop left and right-hand skills on the violin (sound quality, intonation, scales, shifting, basic double stops) using Suzuki, Essential Elements, and specialized exercises. Group listening/playing and harmonic awareness is stimulated through the use of duets and trios. Popular fiddle tunes will provide a fun and creative addition to traditional pedagogy.

We will explore different styles, the theory of how to solo, and practice soloing and playing in a jazz ensemble. After this course, you should have a good understanding of the styles of jazz, the ability to play chord progressions, and execute simple solos in any style.
