American String Workshop Marshall Music, Eastman Strings and Malecki Music sponsor a week long clinic at the University of Michigan
If you had anything to do with strings and you weren’t at the American String Workshop this past June, you missed a memorable and valuable week.
The American String Workshop founded by Dr. Robert Culver, professor of music education and senior string consultant for Marshall Music, had a successful relaunching this past June after a five year absence. String teachers representing 27 states and three countries brought a wide variety of experiences to the week long workshop.
The workshop offered a variety of experiences for every teacher from the novice band director to the veteran string teacher. “I wanted to create the opportunity for all levels of string development. From the band director who has not held a violin since their university days who will be teaching beginning strings this fall, to the violinist who would like to enhance their teaching and performance skills on the cello or bass, to the veteran string teacher who wants to broaden their impact of delivery in the classroom,” stated Dr. Culver.
Classes included lessons on all the string instruments for the beginner, intermediate and advanced performer. Strategies for teaching elementary to high school orchestra, fiddling and jazz were offered at the workshop held at the University of Michigan School of Music.
Malecki Music provided music for all the performance ensembles and Eastman Strings and Marshall Music had instruments on hand for the attendees. Marshall Music and Eastman Strings provided scholarship opportunities and underwrote the workshop.
The 2004 American String Workshop will be held June 21-25, 2004.
